Rules & Tips
- Participants register under a team under their school or employer/workplace organization. Teammates agree on a team name and team size. Identify a Team Captain to keep everyone motivated and informed with accurate team information.
- Participants enter their team size made up of the number of members who want to participate. Three is the minimum number of team members allowed. There is no maximum limit. Scoring takes an average of the team sizes entered by each member.
- Participants login and go to My Profile to view registered team members and team ranking and if needed, edit their registration profiles - it is important to enter accurate information. For fairness, team size cannot be edited. Team Captains check team status regularly for accuracy and to rally support.
- A Team Captain has the option to register their team and collect and log daily activity on behalf of team members - for example, a class teacher. Please ensure there are no double entries.
- Participants must use active or bus transportation to commute to and/or from work/school within Whitehorse, at least 3 times per week. A point is given for each trip per day, with a maximum of 2 points per participant per day.
- Indoor workouts do not count - only outdoor commuting.
- Eligible activities include: walking, running, cycling (self-powered or electric), rolling - skateboard/scooter/wheelchair (self-powered or electric), taking public transit, and taking the school bus.
- Participants can enter more than one activity per day. Leave blank the days with no activity.
- Participants login and go to Add Submission to manually enter their daily trip activity. Daily entries are encouraged but weekly summaries are allowed. Login submissions are open May 1 to 31 midnight. Team Captains encourage timely submissions to reflect accurate leaderboard scores.
- Take a selfie at your destination and submit photo through the Active Commute Whitehorse website: activecommutewhitehorse.ca/active-commuting-year-round (optional).
- Participants commit to fair play and honesty. Misreporting or cheating leads to disqualification
Team Leaderboard
- Live updates of the top 3 employer and school teams are shown on the leaderboard on the Active Commute Month challenge webpage in May.
- The top participation employer ranking is based on the highest percentage of team members in the employer category who log their trips at least 3 times per week during Active Commute Month
- The top participation school ranking is based on the highest percentage of team members in the school category who log their trips at least 3 times per week during Active Commute Month.
- Trip points are updated instantly. Participants can earn 1 point for getting to work/school and 1 point for returning home — up to 2 points per day for each team member using active or bus travel. Personal and team stats can be viewed in My Profile.
- Participation rate is calculated instantly: (total team points ÷ (team size x 2 max points per day x 31 days)) × 100%
