What Everyone Can Do
Together, we move Whitehorse forward
Everyone in Whitehorse can contribute to making our city healthier, greener, and more connected. Every trip—whether you walk, bike, take the bus, or carpool—brings us closer to the City’s goal of 40% sustainable travel by 2040.
No matter where you’re going—to work, school, or around town—your travel choices make a difference. Choosing sustainable ways to get around is good for your health, your wallet, and the planet.
When residents, schools, workplaces, and the wider community all do their part, we move toward a safer, cleaner, and more connected Whitehorse. These everyday actions support the City’s vision of a community that moves together toward a better, more sustainable future.
Explore the resources and tips below to help you start—or keep building—your sustainable travel habits. And don’t forget to join the celebration during Active Commute Month each May!

Start small and inspire others
You don’t have to change everything at once:
- Try walking or biking for short trips, carpooling with a friend, or taking the bus once a week
- Every small choice adds up—and every kilometre not driven alone means less traffic, fewer emissions, and cleaner air for everyone.
Get others involved:
- Start a walking group, organize neighbourhood carpools, or share your commute story online
- When people see that sustainable travel is easy and rewarding, more will join in—and together, we’ll reach our goals faster.

Use what's around you
Use community resources that make sustainable travel easier:
- Bike repair stations and local shops that can help with tune-ups
- City events and challenges—like Active Commute Month—that celebrate sustainable travel
- Bike routes and walking trails across the city
- Transit routes and schedules available online or at main stops
Why transit matters:
Choosing the bus instead of driving can cut per-person GHG emissions by up to two-thirds (World Resources Institute) and save households thousands each year (Canadian Public Health Association).
